Decisive battle for the Northeast

The Liaoshen Campaign isolated Nationalist forces in the Northeast and gave the Communists strategic control of Manchuria. By cutting the Jinzhou axis, the Nationalist forces around Changchun and Shenyang became unable to support one another, and the manpower and industrial base of the Northeast shifted decisively.

After Liaoshen, the war's center of gravity moved from the contest for Manchuria to large encirclement campaigns in North and Central China. Reading it with Huaihai and Pingjin clarifies the speed of the strategic reversal.
