Transfer of the North China metropolitan zone

The Pingjin Campaign moved North China's political and transport centers into Communist control through the cutoff of Zhangjiakou, the fighting at Xinbao'an, the assault on Tianjin, and the negotiated transfer of Beiping. It was directly linked to the expansion of pressure from the Northeast Field Army after Liaoshen.

Tianjin fell by assault, while Beiping was transferred through negotiation. The contrast shows how late-war urban control combined military encirclement with political surrender.
